My son goes to a kind of hippie-dippy school. It's called Waldorf, and it's rooted in a bit of the ol time religion. Paganism. Which works out really well, 'cause my husband was born Catholic and I'm Jewish, but mainly, we're a couple of ecclectic pagans. Jake is fairly certain that the month of December was created solely to give him presents from Hannukah all the way through to Xmas. Waldorf celebrates the Advent. So my son is certain to get into Heaven one way or the other. *g* I'm trying to raise him to see that it's all connected, that *we're* all connected, and that no matter what you label God(ess), (S)he loves you all the same. But that's a tough concept for a little person to grasp, and at five, basically he just wants to know who is what and when does he get the gifts. But the other day, I think he had an Epiphany of sorts. On the way home from school, he told me that they've been lighting the candles of Advent. I listened to him say the Advent prayer. Then he said, "We light Hannukah candles at home too." "Yep," I said. He said that prayer too. "And Daddy puts up the Christmas tree, and it has a bunch of sparkly things on it too." "Yep," I said again, still unsure where his five year old mind was going with this. "I get it!" he shouted. "It's *all* about the light isn't it!?" "Yea," I said. 'Cause really, what else was there to say? From the mouths of babes indeed. So whatever form your Light takes, be it the Solstice Moon, the Christ Child or the Menorah Candles, may the season find you well, and happy, and may the coming year be filled with the Light of the Divine in all things. Blessed be, all my freinds. And the Happiest of Holy Days. |
